8 Common Habits that are Hurting your Skin

By December 27, 2013No Comments

Nobody is perfect with their skincare routine. We all skip a wash, pop a few pimples, or skip the sunscreen every once in a while. This isn’t going make the biggest difference, but making them a habit can actually be detrimental for the health of your skin.

Are any of these part of your routine? Check out 8 common habits that are actually hurting your skin more than you know!

1) Not Taking Off Your Makeup. It’s SO important that you wash your makeup off EVERY NIGHT! When you are sleeping, your skin goes through a renewing process. If your skin is clogged with dirt, oil and makeup at night, the result will be breakouts, enlarged pores, and dull skin. If you want a fresh, healthy looking skin each morning, WASH YOUR FACE! It only takes a few minutes, and your skin will stay younger MUCH longer.

2) Using Too Many Products. If you start using too many products at once, your skin is going to freak out. Starting with too many aggressive products can cause inflammation, which can lead to dry skin, fines lines and wrinkles. Incorporate new products slowly, one about every 6-8 weeks. This will ensure that your skin builds a tolerance to the new products, so you can see the best results.

3) Lack of Sleep. They don’t call it “Beauty Sleep” for nothing! Like we said earlier, when you are sleeping, your skin is renewing itself. It’s important to get 7-8 hours of sleep each night to give your skin time to repair damaged cells.

4) Picking Your Pimples. This is a common habit that is hard to break! While it feels like you’re speeding up the process, a popped pimpled actually takes much longer to heal. You are also spreading the infection, which can cause irritation and redness. Plus, picking at your pimples can result in acne scarring! Do yourself a favor and let your pimples run their course.

5) Using The Wrong Products. Using products that are specific to your skin type its VERY important. Many people think they have oily skin because they have acne, but in reality they actually have dry skin. If you have dry skin and you are treating your acne with products that dry out the skin, your skin will be irritated and break out even more. Using the wrong products for your skin can actually cause more harm than good. We suggest meeting with a skincare professional who will be able to tell you your skin type and what products will work best for your skin!

6) Not Reapplying Your Sunscreen. This is a no brainer. If you are in the sun for more than a few hours, you NEED to reapply. You sweat and absorb that product, so one application is not enough for all day. Sunscreen is going to be a life saver as the years go on, so be sure to lather it on, and don’t forget to REAPPLY!

7) Skipping Exercise. Exercising is actually extremely important to the health of your skin! Exercising will improve the circulation in your body, which will give your skin a healthy glow. You don’t need to overdo it, but exercising a few times a week for at least 30 minutes will give you healthier looking skin.

8) Not Using Products Long Enough. This is a very common mistake. You start using a product, don’t feel like it’s working, and give up on it after 2 weeks. BE PATIENT! It takes at least 6-8 weeks to see the results of most active ingredients. Give it time, if you are consistent and patient with your products, you will notice amazing differences in your skin!
